Golden Doughboys

This recipe was a family favourite when I was young.  I went looking for the original recipe at Mums the other day (2011) and discovered the pages in the book stuck together!!!  It comes from 365 Puddings [Whitcombe & Tombs Limited – NZ].

Dough

1. Place in bowl:

  • 2 Cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 dessertspoon butter
  • 1 beaten egg.

2. Mix together with enough milk to make a light dough.

Sauce

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter

3.  Bring to boil in a saucepan (or electric frypan) and add small balls of dough.

4. Cook for ¼ hour.

5. Serve doughboys with the sauce poured on top.

Notes

Make sure it is not too hot for small children!

Nice with a blob of whipped cream or Ice-Cream
