Chocolate Coconut Fudge Cake

Found this old handwritten recipe from 1982 in one of my notebooks.  This is a classic, yummy baked chocolate slice.

Chocolate Coconut Slice
  • 120g Butter
  • 120g Sugar
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 Cup Coconut
  1. Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add dry ingredients, mix well till crumbly.
  3. Press into sponge roll tin.
  4. Bake 15 – 20 minutes at 180°C.
  5. Ice while warm with
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons cocoa
  • ¼ Cup Hot Water
  • 1 Cup Coconut
  • 1 Cup Icing sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  1. Melt butter
  2. Add cocoa then water
  3. Lastly add dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Spread over base and cut while warm.

  1. Just made this – I reached the end of step 2 and found it was far far too dry, had to add an egg and 1/4 cup milk to it – it still came out lumpy and crumbly. Although it didn’t look very nice, it was very sweet and chocolatey tasting and very very filling.
