Run rabbit, run rabbit, run, run, run!!!!

Planning for Easter Feast tomorrow with the Family. Easter 2012 has the theme of “Fur, Feathers and Fertility”  and has a Main Course that features Rabbit, Chicken and Eggs cooked in a variety of ways served with a selection of breads and Salads.  The dessert selection will have the Chocolate Fountain with fruit and marshmellows, Chocolate Mud Cake, Pavalova, Carrot cakes and more.   The guest list includes family members, friends and a few colleagues all of whom are contibuting to the feast and wearing something to fit the theme.

The party hasn’t started yet but the fun is underway with the kitchen in overdrive and decorations taking shape.  Funniest story so far was buying the rabbits at the butcher. He asked if they were for a special occasion and I explained that we were eating the Easter Bunny for our Easter family get together.  He was horrified and said “Don’t tell the children!!”….. I laughed all the way to the car.  Then I started humming (OK singing) a favourite song from my childhood…. in Maori because that was how we learnt it.

Oma rapeti, oma rapeti
Oma oma oma
Oma rapeti, oma rapeti
Oma oma oma
Haere haere haere ki a koe
Oma rapeti, oma rapeti
Oma oma oma

In English it translates as:

Run rabbit, run rabbit
Run run run
Run rabbit, run rabbit
Run run run
Welcome, welcome, welcome to you
Run rabbit, run rabbit
Run run run

There was another version where line six went “Bang, bang, goes the farmers gun” and this was what I was thinking…. Run Easter Bunny, Run….. you are on the menu!!!!!!

I will post pictures and stories of the feasting later in the weekend.  Have a safe and happy Easter filled with family, friends, fun and chocolate.
